Taking it to the street

As any nudist knows, being naked outdoors can be an refreshing and enlivening experience. But being naked at a nudist resort or nude beach is an entirely different matter than being naked in a public street — the place people walk and drive every day. Consequently there is an extra thrill, daring, and risk in walking down a public street naked, even if it is in the dead of night.

And nothing seems to call one more to get out into the street naked than a warm summer evening. On those occasions (far too rare where I live), I feel almost compelled to walk around my neighborhood in the buff, despite the risk. What could be more refreshing than feeling the night air on the skin, walking through a community in the most natural state?

It was during just such an evening last summer that I grabbed my camera and started strolling around my neighborhood. My self-imposed dare was to walk around an entire block naked. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one who understood the pleasures of going for a late night walk. Almost every time I turned the corner, I saw people either standing and chatting or heading right for me. Consequently, I had to double back a couple of times, and make numerous course corrections. In the end, I never made it around one single block, but I did walk the equivalent of six block lengths. So that would have to suffice.

When I was done, I felt sufficiently alone (and aroused) that I decided to end the evening with a public jackoff session — in the middle of an intersection no less. Fortunately, I completed that part of the dare with no further interruptions. But it was thrilling just the same.

For many years now, I have annually attended at least one of San Francisco's leather-oriented street fairs, either Up Your Alley (also known as Dore Alley for its location) in July or the Folsom Street Fair in September. The events draw thousands of people from all over to see the leather-laden sights, carouse, show off, or simply revel in all things kinky.

In 2007, I was lucky enough to be there with good friend Andrew Adam Caldwell, who also happens to be Nakedism's photographer in residence. Consequently, I was able to return with an unusually great photographic record of one of my personal pleasures, namely, strolling naked among and flirting with welcoming men.

Of thee I singlet

When I was coming out, one of my earliest sources of video erotica was not rented VHS tapes or dank porn theaters but the mainstream wrestling programs that aired on national television. Few sources of entertainment were more homoerotic than these muscular giants in minimal clothing grappling with and practically mounting one another on a stage for all to see.

As it turned out, my own sense of the erotic wasn't that far off the mainstream. Before long, it became pretty common to find videos of porn stars wrestling as a kind of foreplay to sex. Other similarly themed erotica omitted the sex but featured wrestlers who finished off their opponent by stripping off their minimal clothing, leaving them naked and spent in the ring.

And today of course there is no dearth of YouTube and similar videos of actual wrestling events highlighting full-on erections that can't be hidden by their form-fitting singlets.

Although I personally would like to see more sports performed in the nude (as the ancient Olympians did), there is something very sensual about some sports gear. Moreover, there is something erotic about the donning and removal of that or any article of clothing. If we can have games like strip poker, why not strip wrestling, basketball, golf, or more? Promoters should give some thought to this angle, methinks.

All of which is the stuff of fantasy, of course. And this month, I decided to explore that fantasy a bit with photographer and friend Andrew Adam Caldwell in a photo shoot I call Give it a wrestle, now on display in the Nakedism photo gallery. Circadian rhythms

When do you like to have sex? Many men will answer "Any time!" But for some of us, nature, biorhythms, hormones, or something tend to nudge us to be in the mood more at certain times.

Consider the behavior of people on mobile cruising apps like Scruff or Grindr. I often log into these apps just to look at pictures or say hi to friends. But if I leave the app running when I fall asleep, I invariably get hit on or at least contacted by one or two people in the wee hours of the morning, long after I have passed into dreamland. Maybe those people are night owls anyway. Or maybe they just like their sex by moonlight.

Fortunately I'm not stuck in one particular time mode for my pleasuring. I've definitely had some hot sex late in the night after coming home from a night of barroom revelry with a friend. But generally speaking, I get more of my sexual energy in the morning or midday than I do after a long day (especially if that day has included a lot of work).

Consequently, it's especially nice when my schedule allows a friend to drop over in the early or middle part of the day. Not only do I have more sexual energy then, but I get the added pleasure of having more light to feast my eyes on the sexy body of the moment.

Clean as a whistle

Smooth or hairy? Which kind of body do you prefer? Some guys see a hairy physique as a sign of maturity and testosterone- laden manliness while viewing a smooth torso as the hallmark of twinks, the underdeveloped, the overly young, or even as an affectation.

On the other hand, there are those who like hair removal for its ability to reveal the muscularity, sinews, and definition of the manly form. Bodybuilders in particular are known to shave their entire bodies from the neck down for this very reason. Even many who like their furry chests still remove hair from other body parts, such as the back or shoulders, where it may not be considered fashionable.

Of course, many, if not most, of us have no choice in the matter. Nature either endowed us with fur or it didn't. In my own case, I have a respectable amount of hair on my arms and legs, but little on my torso. What little wiry hair does grow on my chest detracts from the definition I have worked hard at the gym to attain. So I reguarly whisk it off with a razor.

Then there is the whole question of manscaping. Again, some guys like pubic hair and some don't. But most would agree that a little bush trimming can show off more of a man's endowment. And rare is the man who doesn't want to be admired for that. I usually do a little crotch trim myself and a little cock shaving. But I've also tried waxing and the full naked groin now and then for variety.

That's about as far as I tend to go in the hair removal game. But one time, a few years ago, I decided to go all out. Not only did I shave off my beard (a rare occasion indeed), I even used razors and depilatories on every part of my body from the nose down. Fortunately, our resident photographer, Andrew Adam Caldwell was there to capture it in a photo set I call Smoothed Operator, now on display in the Nakedism photo gallery.

Faraway fun

As I have noted on multiple occasions, vacations are very often some of my most sex-drenched activities. This has nothing to do with a desire for "fresh meat," as some call it. On the contrary, on many of my vacations, I end up having erotic encounters with friends or fuck buddies I have known for some time.

But vacations do offer two things that daily life at home does not. First, unlike the workaday world we normally inhabit, vacations tend to be times of little stress, where the more playful instincts can flourish without distraction. Second, a good vacation provide extensive amount of free time, time that one would always prefer to fill with the most enjoyable affairs possible. And sex, whatever you may think of it, is one of the simplest, least expensive, and exhilarating diversions a man can find.

It was on just such a vacation weekend that I ended up having day after day of amazing encounters with new friends and old. I recall it fondly in the latest addition to our True Sex Stories department, in a memoir I call Wanton Weekend. I hope it inspires some fun memories — or weekends of your own.
