Nearly 400 people stripped naked and rushed into the sea to break a world record and raise money for charity. The Midsummer Skinny Dip event, which took place at Rhossili beach on the Gower peninsula in Wales, set out to break the record of 250, raising £12,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the National Trust.
To break the record, participants had to be naked and remain in the sea for at least 10 minutes. According to a BBC report, a spokeswoman for the National Trust has claimed the group succeeded in their goal.
The event was held in the early morning to discourage gawkers and encourage those who might be shy about public nudity when more people were around.
The organizer, Alison Powell, 35, an online publishing editor living in Bristol, termed the event "fantastic" and says people are already talking about doing it again next year. Much of the organizing for the event was done through Facebook.
