A gym in Spain's Basque region has begun offering naked sessions. In an effort to combat lower membership rates caused by a struggling economy, Easy Gym in Arrigorriaga has adopted the new policy in hopes of capturing the naturist market. Research shows plenty of naturist activities in the area, and support for the gym polled high at the local naturist associations.
Critics point out that a nudist gym could be unhygienic, with no clothing to catch customer perspiration. But owner Merche Laseca says the gym provides towels "to prevent slippage," according to a BBC report. Customers can also wear sports underwear if deemed practical for a given activity.
The initial naked session attracted only four people. But for now the gym will continue to offer naked hours on Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. A naked yoga class is also being contemplated.
